The Certified Hair-cutter!

I woke up today, feeling really excited for school (for I don't know what reason). And I went to school with a light heart, thinking that it would be a BEAUTIFUL DAY. It was after all a Friday, so TGIF.

Even before the National Anthem was sung, I was called by my Discipline Mistress to go to the canteen. For what? TO EAT?? SIAO!
I was called to go to the canteen to get a haircut by that all hail hairdresser who loves to snip students' fringes off.
So off I went to the canteen after morning assembly.

My hair was barely covering my face, and it crossed my eyebrows less than 1.5 cm! A measly 1.5 cm! (And in case you're wondering... Yes, I measured it.)

I HAD TO FIND A WAY OUT.
NO WAY WAS I GOING TO LET HER CUT MY HAIR FOR $5 bucks.

I took out a pair of scissors, and SNIP! Off went my 1.5cm of hair/fringe.
The self-satisfaction and contentment kicked in!

I saved $5, AND I saved my pride.

That's the end of my hairy story.
At least my hair doesn't look NOOB-ISH. (:

Nat.
A certified HAIR-CUTTER.

Another Great SS Lesson!

We had Social Studies (SS) lessons today, and contrary to popular belief, SS is NOT THAT BORING AFTER ALL.

Delving into the topic of housing, 4e6's going to have a 'mission' on Friday (probably next week) and we're going to evaluate the surroundings of Farrer Road estate -the one right beside Farrer Road Market and by the way, they sell really great beancurd- and come to conclusions.

These conclusions would include the proving of hypotheses that we come up with "The HDB meet the changing needs of the society esp. the elderly" to simple ones such as "The surrounding environment in HDB estates allow social cohesion and mingling to take place."

This is what I call learning beyond textbooks.

I better start practicing my Hokkien, WHAT IF I bump into a friendly senior citizen who speaks only Hokkien?

Le jia ba buay? (Have you eaten already?)
Ai lim zhui mai? (Do you want to drink some water?)

I have a sudden craving for these potato ring thingys.

Science Day 2007

Sec One Science Day today! 4e6 was the main organiser for this day.
Thanks to the planning comm! For all your hard work!

My station was the Cartesian Diver. I did 8 briefings (4 to 5 minutes each), and I wanted to DIE. My voice is nearly gone now... And guess what! There's choir tomorrow.

First batch of sec ones was HORRENDOUS. I can't express my dismay any more than giving them the killer look. Apparently, I kill people with my fierce look. Don't ask me mann, I've been looking at myself at the mirror all these years, and I'm still alive.

Three interesting Girls I met today.

1. ATTITUDE GIRL: She stood there like a piece of wood, and was whispering under her breath. Haha, I thought she could have done it more discreetly, so obvious she was scolding Mr Chua F***.

2. 'CRAZY' GIRL: She was rather disappointed with her results because she didn't appear in the High scores board, she threw her bottle aside, she picked up the bucket half-filled with water, and overturned it! SIAOKIA. In the end??? I mopped the floor, and I became the ah-soh/maria of my station.
Oh yes, not only that, she took the high scores board and tore it into pieces.
According to Shandy, "You spoilt your reputation as a Station Master ah!"

Not only that, the people around her were holding her back at her shoulders, and she was just struggling to get to the bottle.

3. RANDOM GIRL: After my station, she started mumbling to herself "I can't dance, I can't sing" or SOMETHING like that.

It was just a whole load of drama. I wish I had it all on camera.

Drama crap aside.
I want to thank
DEBORAH, NICOLLE, ZHENLI, CHERYL, EVE, DHANYA, HAZEL, CHRISTINA.
And MR CHUA.

Without them, I would have died.
Special mention to:
Debs and Nicolle, for really helping me to set up everything (:
Mr Chua, for clearing most of my doubts, and 'handling' the sec ones.

P.S.
--> The Sec Ones are getting worse every year, of course, there are those exceptional ones (:
-->OH YES. And that 'Crazy' girl I mentioned in point number two... She chewed BLU TAC. Right in front of my face. She said, "This can be a second cover for chewing gum!" -pops blu tac into mouth. -.-
--> I LOVE ISLAND CREAMERY.
--> And I LOVE TABITHA (:

Five Week Embryo

Why does EVERYONE freak when I show them this? Anyway, I thought it was quite relevant to our Bio lessons now.
This photo of an opened oviduct with an ectopic pregnancy features a spectacularly well preserved 10-millimeter (1 cm!) embryo. It is uncommon to see any embryo at all in an ectopic, and for one to be this well preserved (and undisturbed by the prosector's knife) is quite unusual.

I guess she was feeling a little bored when she wrote this story. Camellia showed me her story after common test today.

TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY. Because...
I missed school.
I slept for 16 hours.
I recovered after my super long sleep.
I didn't need to see a doctor.
I went back for SS common test, and I'm quite confident (for the first time) that I'll get a B.
I had my MUA CHEE.
I bought some earrings.
I had tosai for lunch/dinner.
And...
I'm going to study today.

Good thing I missed school, apparently, my Chem teacher was being a bitch.

Enough of 'I's. Have 'U' had a good day??
If not, share it with someone! Make your day a better one!

Should the fittest survive?

Read this article in the Review section of the Straits Times today. "Should the fittest survive?"
We touched the tip of this iceberg during one of my previous Social Studies lessons.

Imagine a 20-storey building, and it had to be evacuated due to an emergency. What if you were to evacuate the young, diabled and elderly first, but in the process hinder 10 ther able-bodied persons from exiting a collapsing building.

Justice vs Utility.

One might argue that those who are in most need should receive priority.
You could also choose to give priority to those least in need, because they can contribute most to society if restored to health.

If you are faced with this collapsing building scenario, you may have saved a weaker person, but surely you were also instrumental in the deaths of 10 others?

Difficult. Difficult.

I thank the Straits Times and Andy Ho for inspiration for this blog post.

Pi fans to meet March 14 (3.14, get it?)

Anyway, got this article from Yahoo News. This may be all mathematical to you... But oh well. I LOVE MY MATH (: Not to the extent of this though. I will not ever bring myself to remembering an entire string of number which might or might not make sense. Who knows! I might find the trillionth and first number one day! (:

This is a story about love. About inscrutable complexity and remarkable
simplicity, about the promise of forever. It is about obsession and devotion,
and grand gestures and 4,000-word love letters. It is about a curious group of
people with an almost religious zeal for a mind-numbing string of numbers. Actually one number, made up of a chain that is known — so far — to be more than one trillion digits long. They are the acolytes of the church of pi.

And once a year many of them gather to talk about pi, rhapsodize about it, eat pi-themed foods (actual pie, sure, but so much more), have pi recitation contests and,
just maybe, feel a little less sheepish about their unusual passion.
That day falls on Wednesday this year: March 14. Or 3.14. Obviously.
The question is why, of course. And if you ask the fans of pi why, a startling number of them will come back with the same question: "Why climb Mount Everest?" Because it's there.

But then they start talking about some very simple ideas. Like the beauty of a number that seems to go on forever and yet has no discernible pattern to it. Or about the valor of the memorization gymnastics, challenging oneself always to know more.

This is how Akira Haraguchi, a 60-year-old mental health counselor in Japan, puts it: "What I am aiming at is not just memorizing figures. I am thrilled by seeking a story in pi."
He said this one day last fall after accurately reciting pi to 100,000 decimal places. It took him 16 hours. He does not hold the Guinness world record, only because he has
not submitted the required documentation to Guinness. But he has his
story.
(Incidentally, the world record belongs to Chao Lu, a Chinese chemistry student, who rattled off 67,890 digits over 24 hours in 2005. It took 26 video tapes to submit to Guinness.)

A brief math refresher: Pi a simple concept, the relationship between a circle's circumference and diameter: Multiply the diameter by pi — 3.14159, to use a crude approximation that would make many of the people in this story blanch — and you get the circumference.

Supercomputers have computed pi to more than a trillion decimal places, looking always for a pattern to unlock its mystery. And for centuries the number has fascinated mathematicians.
And then there are people like Marc Umile. Twelve years ago, while working as an usher at a Philadelphia opera house, he picked up a book on curiosities of math and read about pi's seemingly infinite, random string.

He wondered about applying the way we absorb music to the mystical number. An obsession was born. In 2004 Umile read the digits of pi into a tape recorder. He did it a thousand at a time and gave it a rhythm — some numbers high-toned, some low.
He listened to the tape constantly. This went on for two years. A two-year trance.
"To and from work, in my quiet time, on my lunch break — and when I didn't have the tape I would recite in the shower," he says. "Probably 40 percent of the time there was an earphone in my ear. I said, `Oh my God, what have I created?'
What he created was what is believed to be U.S. record for pi memorization — 12,887 digits. He typed them into a spreadsheet at a Philadelphia law office —
three-and-a-half hours, 1,000 numbers at a time, with two smoke breaks.

Umile, who is 40 and now works as a Medicare biller, believes the fascination with pi has something to do with our desire to learn the ultimate truth of something. Each decimal place, in theory, takes you 10 times closer to the answer.

He says he made a mistake in his training: He told too many people what he was up to. His wife, his family — they were rooting for him. Most of the rest dismissed him as a weirdo. "I have a delicate confidence level in a way," he says. "Maybe I don't believe in myself too much. If you do something of this magnitude, keep it a secret. Don't tell anybody what you're doing."Others are less shy about their fixation.
A software engineer in Virginia named Mike Keith wrote a poem to pi, a "piem." A love letter, in a way.

To say that it is a something to behold is an understatement: It is nearly 4,000 words long — and the length in letters of each word corresponds to pi's digits. In other words, if you can remember the poem — which riffs on T.S. Eliot's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock," Act V of "Hamlet" and Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven," among other texts — you too can recite pi. "One: A Poem: A Raven," it begins (3-1-4-1-5). "Midnights so dreary, tired and weary, silently pondering volumes extolling all by-now obsolete lore. During my rather long nap — the weirdest tap! An ominous vibrating sound disturbing my chamber's antedoor." And so on.

Keith says he thinks of himself only as "an average pi nut." He figures he knows maybe 100 pi digits off the top of his head. "My daughter knows about 50," he adds. "She's 15."

There are logical gathering places for people like this, and one of them is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where, on March 14, students have been known to wish each other — out loud — a happy Pi Day. The school plays a role in
encouraging this: In the past it has tried to mail its acceptance letters on March 14. (It didn't work out this year. And last year, when an MIT official wrote on an admissions blog that it probably wouldn't work out then either, he was greeted with disappointment. "Pi Day seems so romantic," one prospective student wrote.)

There's a popular chant, an MIT rallying cry, that includes "3.14159." (It rhymes with "Cosine, secant, tangent, sine!" And Bryan Owens, an MIT senior, says the ability to recite pi is a sort of bragging right, a coin of the realm. "It's like how much money you have," he says. "But you never win. You always find somebody who knows it to more digits than you do. I think the basic idea is we like to celebrate things, kind of celebrate who we are." And that is why, like the Irish on St. Patrick's Day or Italians on Columbus Day, this Wednesday, 3-14, in many cases at 1:59 p.m., pi enthusiasts will have their moment in the sun. At the Exploratorium in San Francisco, there will be pies to eat, people wearing pi jewelry, more beads — color-coded by digit — added to the pi string. And the celebrants will gather at a sort of pi shrine, a brass plaque engraved with pi's first 100 digits.
It may be a stretch to say that pi has achieved a kind of cultural cachet, but it is true that, as an obsession, it's not just for math geeks anymore. Givenchy makes a Pi perfume. Kate Bush sings out its digits in a song. And — of course — YouTube stocks
videos of people reading pi into the camera. Umile, the pi-chanting Medicare
biller who struggled with self-confidence, is already booked to appear on a local TV show on Wednesday. The other night he rattled off 10,000 pi digits, just to keep the gears oiled. Funny thing, though: For the life of him, he can't remember the phone number he calls every month to make his mortgage payment. And the other day he got his own bank account number wrong.
"It starts with 6-1-4," he says. "And I wrote 3-1-4."

LUNCH.

Intensive choral training has JUST BEGUN. SYF's drawing near, and I just can't wait. =D
I really LOVE the set piece. "Everyone Sang" by Ko Matsushita. Choral pieces by him are just extraordinary, amazing, terrific, wonderful, swell, incredible, marvellous. Any more words? I can't really think right now.

I was just reading through my conversations in Log Viewer... And I noted something really peculiar...

We all say "Let's go for lunch."

Nothing wrong you say? Read again.

"Let's go out for lunch."

Okay don't be irritated just yet. There is a tiny little error.

"Let's go out to lunch."

I guess both usages are perfectly fine.

'go out FOR lunch'
'go out TO lunch'
'HAVE LUNCH'

And I really feel like going for lunch now... At this time of the night.

I Am @ Youth.SG

Slimming Culture in Singapore? THROW IT AWAY!

I was reading the papers this morning, and this thought suddenly flashed across my mind, "What IF I were an American/in America right now?" (Not that I love America or anything.) Would I be viewing such newspaper articles? All this GST rise/ budget thingys. I feel that Singapore is just scared of the government. Oh well. Who am I to complain?
We, students of Singapore, do not have minds of our own.
Constantly trying to stuff all the textbook information into our heads.

On the flip side, I love being in Singapore. The culture here is so mixed, you just do what you like, you can definitely find your own clique of people.
You speak English profeciently, you can find defintely find your gang.
You speak Singlish, you can 100% confirm find your type one ahhh!
You dress ah-lian, you just roam orchard and ta-dah! The ah-bengs just fall right in front of you just to have a peek up your super short skirt.
You dress aunty, you'd definitely find another aunty walking down the streets.

As for me, I love to eat. I can find a gang who loves to eat. All the sinful yet tasty delights in Singapore!
Talking about eating, there's a newspaper article in The Straits Times today about Singaporeans being among the most weight-conscious. We rank FIFTH in per capita usage of appetite-suppressants called anorectics. Ranking first is Brazil, followed by Argentina, South Korea and the US. Yet, our obesity rates are VERY LOW when compared with the others in the top five. Brazil has an obesity rate of 13.5%, Argentina at 31.2%, South Korea at 7.1% and the US at a scary figure of 39.2%.
How about Singapore? 5%??? Guess again.
We, in contrast, barely tip the scales at 1.6%.The slimming culture is SO ALIVE in Singapore. Just throw it away! Because, more often than not, once the slim-a-holics stop their slimming programme, they end up eating more, and they get fatter than they were before.

I'm taking a bold step here, and I've got a little secret to share. I was once one of those slim-a-holics. I even resorted to starvation. I was miserable, even though I was really happy about receiving all those compliments "Hey Nat, you've slimmed down a lot. Looking a lot sexier now." Even a whole pool of compliments could never compensate that misery I went through. The deprivation of food nearly drove me to my grave.

At the beginning of the 21st Century, we live in a world that has seen an upheaval in consciousness concerning the position of women. Yet, despite dramatically changed views and expanded lifestyles, many women still place dieting and body shaping ahead of life shaping and world shaping on their lists of New Year's resolutions. Once again, we are planning to spend billions of our dollars trying to transform our natural shapes.

Yet, here we are again. The idealized image is meaner and leaner and younger than ever. The tabloids scrutinize our Hollywood icons to see who has lost and who has gained. The doctors hawk their programs, vying for space on bestseller lists. And many of us are ready to die for all those new pills and surgeries.

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if women simply stopped having these bad body thoughts. What would happen if each time you made a self-abusive remark about how you look, you let the reproach go, challenged your thinking – "Who says there is such a thing as a perfect thigh?" – and instead focused on whatever you were thinking about before you made the thought-detour to your body.

Just imagine the $60 billion diet industry crumbling, taking several others along with it! What would we do with all that time on our hands? Imagine how we would use all the energy! The possibilities dazzle!!!! REALLY! :D :D :D

As a start, let's scratch all references to achieving an unreal body shape from our list of resolutions. This year, let's resolve to stop the dieting that has become such a life-long, life-draining preoccupation and instead embrace and enjoy our bodies in all their diversity. Let's happily reclaim our appetites, our bodies and our lives!! WHEEE! I want the eating culture to prevail. There was never a time in my entire teenage life where anyone has told me "Being a little fat is all right."
And I'm telling all you reading this out there, "BEING A LITTLE FAT IS ALL RIGHT." Stay healthy, stay happy.
Imagine hugging the 'model' on the right. Image hugging the 'model' on the left. Which would you prefer? I'd prefer the latter. I won't be hugging bones.

So why not... We eat. We exercise. And we become the fittest nation in the world??
Let's try to work towards that. But what are the chances of the Nation reading this.

Let's all say YES TO ANTI-DIETING! Join me in my never ending campaign to ANTI-DIETING!

March Holidays

I'm quite excited for the March holidays. There's gonna be Youth Alpha weekend! Can't wait to just feel God in that special way again.
Although there is the sad fact that I must go back to school nearly everyday.

Mon: Chem & MT lesson, (0830 - 1000, 1030 - 1330) Choir (1400 - 1800 hrs)
Tue: Chem & MT lessons (0830 - 1000, 1030 - 1330), Choir (1400 - 1800 hrs)

Today was church-filled. It has been 6 months since I spent at least 7 hours in church. Nevertheless, I felt very productive today. Managed to get a view of the Youth Attic in our NEWLY BUILT Damien Hall. Love it to the MAXXXXX.
I foresee it bring youths from different parishes to have some mini retreat thingy. NAT. You can make things happen.

Choir Camp; Video Shoot.

Choir camp was THE BLAST. I know I wasn't looking forward to it... Come to think of it, it was really God's plan to bring me there. New friendships formed, deeper bonds forged, and old friendships strengthened.

There is one person I would LOVE to thank the entire camp. She has helped to lift my low spirit in choir, FOREVER prompting me to go for rehearsals.
No prizes for getting it right.
Tabitha.

Anyway, we got dirty. We got wet. We got injured (more like ONLY I got injured).

We had rehearsals at night, and I never thought singing in the parade ground at night was actually pleasant!
Only downside of this camp was the climbing of stairs. We had to climb like a million stairs, and I was whining incessantly, only because my muscles (all over my body) were aching. Aching to a point where even breathing was painful.

New committee elected yesterday! WHOO. Wei Tian's in the comm! (:

Ended the camp with a rehearsal today morning. We received our confirmed standing positions for all three pieces today. Guess what? I'm standing in the front for all pieces. I mean so is Edlyn, Ji Hae and Amanda from Alto 2... But oh mannnn. Okay, shall just stop whining.

Camp was just ENJOYABLE TO THE MAX. Haha, I have no other words to describe the happiness I'm feeling now (don't mind the limited vocab I have). After this camp, I'm all the more motivated to get that Gold/Gold with Hons for SYF!

Three things I realised this camp:
1. I have a habit of not closing my mouth when I stone or listen to people talk.
2. I think too much. According to Tabitha, a triple science class causes you to think deep into everything. =X
3. I love my choir! (:
Thanks ah Tabitha, you helped me realised ALL THREE POINTS.

Rushed down for my shoot after camp. This shoot is for some National Education thingy I suppose.
WHOO. It was fun. (: Enjoyed it too.
Had to dress in some Civil Defence uniform. I looked smart.
Thank goodness the books printed are to be given out to JCs and Polytechincs only. NOT secondary schools. I'll just die of embarrassment.

I'm feeling a little guilty now. Too much enjoyment = Bad results.
Off to mugger-land.

International Women's Day

I didn't even realise today was International Women's Day until Errol sms-ed me early in the morning.

I was about to go home from Vivo, and I happened to miss my bus. So I decided to just change buses. I boarded bus service 143. Guess what? There was a woman dressed like an angel giving away free SANITARY PADS. Oh how convenient.
The bus was advertising the new brand of sanitary pads "New Feel".

It says: "NewFeel celebrates International Women's Day. FREE bus rides and FREE goodie bags* for all females board NewFeel buses on 8 March 07.
NewFeel Bus No. 7, 19, 70, 74, 80, 93, 143, 154, 235, 269, 291 & 293. (*while stocks last)"

Whoo. Let's celebrate with better discount vouchers ya!

Sports Day 2007.

The best sports day of my life! I was a little stressed over it for the past one month, I'm sure the other committee members were too. Good job everyone.

All right, so maybe Tolley didn't get the championship, but we tried our best. And our efforts were not futile. THIRD PLACING FOR TOLLEY!
Main point is: We didn't get last.

Cheer cup. No doubt we deserved/wanted it, considering the amount of effort we put in. The late nights. The non-stop practices.
However, Cooke was good. Their presentation, their costume, their ability to engage the crowd. They truly deserved it in the end.

Thanks Tolley. For just shouting, shouting and shouting non-stop.
Thanks runners. For putting up a good fight.
Thanks my cheerleaders. For having the best routine in the world.
Thanks teachers, for helping us with issues that require your help.

I ran in the 4x100m relay for sec4/5s together with my wonderful team. Sheryl, Gamar and Shahira. Thanks guys for being able to trust me. You guys just ROCK. "Win or lose, NO REGRETS."

"We'd most likely lose," we thought. It was as good as placing yourself in a room full of bees, and hoping not to get stung!

"Bang!" A few more seconds until the first runner comes and passes me the baton..
"UP!" I raised my hand and grabbed the baton, and off I went.
"Nat, don't let your team down." I managed to catch up by say 1m from Fearon. If our baton passing had been much better, we would have a chance of getting third place.
No prizes for guessing. Tolley came in last for that event.

We still got third placing in the end. Well, only because one team got disqualified. What went through my head at that point of time was just "HAVE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP."
If I were in their shoes, I'd definitely be disappointed. Having to own up that you cut a lane sucks. I think I'd understand that quite clearly. It's deja vu of secondary one for me. And also having to cause your entire team disqualified sucks too.
Guilt, anger, fear, embarrassment, regret. It all starts to sink it. All I wish to say is, thank you. Thank you for being the honest people that I love.

Headed down to Vivo with Nicolle, Gushi, Tracy, Alicia and Joy. Ate at Yoshinoya (: and Ben&Jerrys! Whoo.
Had crap loads of fun. I wish I had picturessss. I hate not being able to photo blog. With my cam and phone both down, my entertainment time had just cut down by HALF.

CHOIR CAMP TOMORROW. I wish I fell sick NOW.

CWO. 12 Readers Digest Issues at a price of $25??

What is CWO you all ask. Corrective Work Order my friends.
That's what you get when you're late for school in St. Margaret's.
Cleaned a few windows with the unwanted newspapers. And like that wasn't embarrassing enough, I had to wear that super bright orange vest. Exactly like the ones you find construction workers wearing when they are working.

Headed down to Bras Basah with Camellia after my CWO. I needed to buy face paint and balloons for tomorrow's sports day.
On the way, I passed the second-hand bookshop. I decided to pop by, and guess what i found???
ONE ENTIRE COLLECTION OF READERS DIGEST!!!
All at the price of $27.50. However. I looked carefully, and I realised that the December 2006 issue was missing. Distraught, I sought the shopkeepers help, and I found the REAL ENTIRE COLLECTION. But it was at a price of $42.

With Nat's mathematical intelligence. I almost immediately calculated that the 11-issue collection was so much more worth it. All I needed to do was just buy the Dec 2006 issue.
Yeps. And I managed to bring the price down EVEN MORE.
$25!!

Haha, so seriously.. If you need to get your stuff cheap... CALL NAT ALONG. (:

Long Long Day.

Long day today.
School. Science day trials. Choir. Cheer practice.
Came home at around 9.30pm.

Science day trials. It was FUN. Only because my station worked out, and also because my helpers understood all that Mass, Volume, Density crap (considering I'm really awful at expressing myself).
Went up to the Chemistry Labs to steal sweets and and and I was so tempted to just mix everything together. Oh yes, and I put sodium hyroxide onto MnMs. It really quickens the rate of the 'bleaching' of chocolate.

Choir was UBER COOL. And for once, I enjoyed choir. We had voice recording today. The pitching for the group who was recording was just WOWWWW.
I wish we could do that just ONCE MORE. (:

Cheer practice. Haha, FUN. Although I was just carrying people up into the air, and erm.. Pressing the "PLAY", "PAUSE", "STOP", "REWIND" and "FORWARD" buttons.
If I were to dance, I'd be dancing like a pendulum.
Actually, I'm clueless as to why I compared my dancing to pendulum.
Our cheer routine ROCKS. And might have a chance of winning that cheer trophy (:

Thanks Tabitha. <3 For being so present.

LIFE IS NEVER FAIR. GET OVER IT.

君问归期未有期,
巴山夜雨涨秋池。
何当共剪西窗烛,
却道巴山夜雨时。

这是一片寂寞。

My relationship with God has remained stagnant for the past three months, and no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to break free of that chain.

The stress is building up so steadily. But then again. Whatever that doesn't kill Nat, makes Nat stronger.

LIFE IS NEVER FAIR. GET OVER IT.

加油!

Music and Lyrics.

Caught the movie "Music and Lyrics".
Starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore.
Enjoyable movie. Because I love romance. (: Makes me happy to see people falling in love.

Alex Fletcher is a washed-up '80s pop star who's been reduced to working the nostalgia circuit at county fairs and amusement parks. The charismatic and talented musician gets a chance at a comeback when reigning diva Cora Corman invites him to write and record a duet with her, but there's a problem--Alex hasn't written a song in years, he's never written lyrics, and he has to come up with a hit in a matter of days. Enter Sophie Fisher, Alex's beguilingly quirky plant lady, whose flair for words strikes a chord with the struggling songwriter. On the rebound from a bad relationship, Sophie is reluctant to collaborate with anyone, especially commitment-phobe Alex. As their chemistry heats up at the piano and under it, Alex and Sophie will have to face their fears--and the music--if they want to find the love and success they both deserve.

Haley Bennett's HOT.
And TRUST ME. The soundtrack is AWESOME.

My rating: 4/5. Recommended for all those who seek romance.

ASCI Science Symposium 2007

Headed down to ACSI for the Science Symposium. OMG. I'm falling in love with ACSI already. The people there are quite charismatic I must say. Throw the stereotype of ACSI pple to be snobbish and irritating freaks away. They are different. =D

Again, another few pictures, stuck in my phone.

I saw this really cool section entirely on bones. Did you know that if you soak a chicken thigh bone in hydrochloric acid, it can become flexible? If you soak a bone in tea (earl's grey, lipton or whatever), it'll shrink to 25% of its original size. If you soak a bone in coffee, it gets stained so badlyMoral of the story? Avoid all caffinated substances. But then again, I think once in a while won't do you any harm can it? After all, we're talking about SOAKING the bones in caffinated drinks.

Whoo!! St. Margaret's got second placing! Their presentation was SUPER CUTE!
And seriously, I don't know how Hwachong acheieved first placing. Their presentation was no where compared to ours. Haha. Okayokay, so they do have a brand. And maybe they are after all better. This is just an opinion, thus making it BIAS.

Met Errol and slacked around. Visited the breakmaking station. Some tension station where I saw Jerrold (I'll get him to sing one day). Some MRNA station too where I amazingly understood whatever the dude was saying.

Studied in the classrooms for a while. And they are OMG so freaking lucky to have air-conditioned classrooms. Another HUGE reason for falling in love with ACSI.
Headed down to church where we attended stations of the cross.
After that we ate CHAR KWAY TEOW. UBER NICEEEEEE. Yummmy.
Went back to church again, was supposed to attend a meeting. But I decided to pass this meeting at the 11th hour. Quite irresponsible but you should have seen the NUMBER of people there.

Camwhored with Errol. WAHAHA. It was the best camwhoring session of my life. Alrights, so we spent ONE ENTIRE HOUR taking pictures of ourselves. How constructive. (:
Shall post the pictures MUCH LATER, when Errol sends me the pictures.

Learning Journey: Pulau Semakau

BOO. My phone is screwed up. Gonna need to send it for servicing real soon. Thank goodness I have my spare phone with me now. My trusty Nokia 6100i.

Yes, I was supposed to blog yesterday about my Learning Journey to Pulau Semakau, but I somehow didn't. Reached home rather late and fell asleep.
No pictures (taken by me) for now because of my stupid phone, I can't even get the adapter to word for my micro sd card. Shall post ripped photos then. Credits to Puiwah and Pamela.

Pulau Semakau, the last landfill for Singapore. It is expected to be filled up by year 2045. Afterwhich, we must find other ways to dispose of our waste. Importing of refuse to dumpsites in China?? I wonder.

Ha! Pulau Semakau is SO CLEAN, I swear it's cleaner than mainland Singapore. During my entire visit there, I couldn't spot a single piece of litter on the floor, or even a fly.

Learning journey was fun. Too bad I missed it last year. But no regrets. I went for the Mount Ophir expedition where I met so many friends. The saddest thing just happened to the sec threes: THEIR expedition apparently got cancelled because of the lack of participation from the other schools in the South1 Cluster.
I know Raffles Institution will NEVER participate. They'll be too busy mugging away I SUPPOSE.

And that's the end of my Learning Journey. WHOO.

Bio Lessons incorporated into SS, is it possible?

Whoo! Biology lessons ROCK big time. Only when it's about sexual reproduction in man.
Haha. Okay, so maybe I was kinda distracted the whole day. Don't know why. Haha, hmmm. Dirty thoughts to fill my head? BOO.

Kym asked me a question: How many times does a male ejaculate ah?
I was like.. "Hmmm, once? I don't know man." So I asked Mr low!
I felt that dead silence again.

Mr Low, "Once only. But he can take a rest, and then continue, and ejaculate again."

Melodie raised this question not much later "What's the plural of penis?"
Threw the entire class into fits of laughter. Mwahah.
Turned to me and said "Peni?" Pronounced: Pee-nai

Social studies was another fun period. Miss Chia asked what general issue we would like to bring up. I quite hesitantly said "The nine year old girl who got pregnant."
Miss Chia asked, "So what can we conclude from this?"
Me, "ABSTAIN from SEX!"
Miss Chia, "ABSTAIN? Do you know what that means?"
Me, "It means you can have sex, but not too often." All right, I was trying to test her limits at this point in time.
Miss Chia, "Are we even in the right position to say that we can have sex?"
Me, (silently) "Ermm. I guess so."

Therefore we all come down to that stupid question: Why do we have to take SS? To make use of everything we learn, and put it into GOOD PRACTICE. By talking cock!

Thank GOODNESS I was allowed to remain seated. Although I wouldn't have minded standing up in class. It was good entertainment.

Anyway, I think my teacher is some SS freak or something, she almost incorporates SS into her daily life. She even asked me "What can I infer from what you just said?" when all I said was "I hate picture sources!!"
Tell me man, even I dont know what I was trying to imply.

And finally! It's learning journey tomorrow. I'll be heading down to semakao landfill. Expect pictures yall!
